For the August update, I wanted to make both the moment you record your training and the time you spend looking back on it more enjoyable. You can now add a jiu-jitsu journal entry by voice right after training, and the monthly, quarterly, half-year, and yearly recap screens have all been refreshed.
Keeping a record consistently matters, but I also think it is important to look through what you have accumulated and feel excited for the next session. I hope this update helps connect small daily notes with changes that unfold over a longer time.
Write Journals by Voice
You can now write journals in Post Black Belt using your voice. Even on days when typing on your phone after training feels difficult, speaking what you remember is a quicker way to start recording it.
Voice recognition works in the language you use. I also refined it to feel as responsive as possible, so feel free to capture the techniques that come to mind right after class, what you noticed during sparring, or what you want to practice again next time.
Voice journaling is also a feature that many users have requested for a long time. After trying it, please send feedback if there are moments when the recognition feels awkward or the flow could be more convenient. I will keep improving it so it is more useful in your real training routine.
Refreshed Monthly, Quarterly, Half-Year, and Yearly Recaps
Looking forward to your next recap can be a great motivation to keep recording. That is why I have refreshed every recap screen, from monthly to quarterly, half-year, and yearly views.
Monthly Recap
In the monthly recap, you can see your journal and attendance count, total training time, and sparring time together. Frequently used journal categories, technique hashtags, stickers, and your current belt are also on one screen, making it easy to look back on the month at a glance.
The heatmap lets you see how often you trained through your records for each day. Seeing the periods when your logs were concentrated and when you took a break can make your training rhythm clearer than looking at numbers alone.
Quarterly and Half-Year Recaps
Quarterly and half-year recaps let you compare attendance and journal records built up over a longer period. You can check your most frequently recorded journal categories and technique hashtags, and revisit your progress during periods when you were promoted.
The training-time recap shows monthly training intensity, total training and sparring time, average session length, and sparring rounds. Rather than only counting sessions, use it to look back on the periods when you trained with more focus.
From monthly through yearly views, each recap includes the different parts of your training journey: training time, technique hashtags, competitions, and belt promotions. I hope seeing changes across a month or the flow built over a year helps you set your next goal.
A New Dot Matrix Widget Style
Alongside the existing widget styles, I added a new dot matrix style that expresses the flow of your records through dots and patterns. Choose between the existing styles and the dot matrix style to match the feel you want for your Home Screen.
The dot matrix widget works especially well alongside the dot heatmap. With the small dots continuing across the screen, you can feel the rhythm of your training records at a glance from your Home Screen. I recommend placing the two widgets side by side.
Wrapping Up
This update was shaped by requests and feedback from people who actively keep training records. Once you have tried voice journaling and the new recap screens, I would be grateful to hear what worked well and what felt inconvenient.
I will keep improving Post Black Belt so it can be a tool that helps you keep everything from thoughts right after training to jiu-jitsu records built over many years—and enjoy looking back on them.
