They say you should exercise at least 30 minutes a day, 3 times a week to stay healthy. I practiced Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) for a long time, and these days I work out 5 days a week for about 40 minutes each session, while also running regularly.
As I engaged in various sports, I often thought: 'Wouldn't it be great if tracking my workouts felt more fun and visual, rather than just plain numbers and text?' Talking with fellow fitness enthusiasts, I realized many people wanted a light, hassle-free way to log attendance alongside customizable widget spaces tailored to different sports.
That's how Sportling was born—an app where you can showcase your own cute pixel art workout space, easily check in daily, track D-Days, and feel a genuine sense of accomplishment right from your home screen.
1. Customizable Pixel Art Workout Spaces (34 Sports Supported)
Sportling provides pixel art workout spaces where you can freely decorate backgrounds, avatars, and props according to your favorite activities.
Currently, 34 different workout spaces are supported:
- Ball & Racket Sports: Baseball, Softball, Badminton, Basketball, Pickleball, Padel, American Football, Rugby, Handball, Field Hockey, Ice Hockey, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Soccer, Futsal, Golf, Tennis
- Martial Arts: Jiu-Jitsu, Boxing, Judo, Taekwondo
- Fitness & Wellness: Gym/Weight Training, Yoga, Pilates
- Outdoor & Action: Archery, Climbing, Bowling, Cycling, Hiking, Running, Swimming, Surfing, Skiing, Snowboarding
We aimed to cover as many sports as possible and plan to add even more spaces in future updates. If there's a specific sport you'd love to see, let us know and we'll gladly add it!
2. Daily Attendance & Visual Heatmaps
Check off your daily workouts with a single tap. As time goes on, your consistency fills up a heatmap calendar—giving you a visual sense of achievement every time you look at it.
Forgot to log yesterday's workout? No problem. You can retroactively record past workouts whenever you want.
3. Weekly Reminders to Stay Consistent
Set weekly alarms to stay on top of your routine. Receive gentle reminders after your workout sessions to check in and build lasting habits.
4. D-Day Countdowns for Motivation
Mark milestone dates like the day you started working out, an upcoming BJJ belt promotion, a marathon race, or a competition. Keep your goals front and center to stay motivated.
5. Customizable Home Screen Widgets
Add D-Days or custom motivational quotes to your decorated pixel space and place it right on your home screen.
With the medium-sized widget, you can view your heatmap calendar directly on your home screen and check off today's workout without even opening the app.
6. 100% Private & Works Offline
All your data is stored exclusively on your device. Sportling works 100% offline without requiring an internet connection or external servers, keeping your personal health data completely private and secure.
Closing Thoughts
Although I started building Sportling for my own personal needs, I hope it brings a smile and a small sense of accomplishment to anyone who loves staying active.
I'll continue listening to user feedback to introduce new sports, decoration props, and widget features. Start logging your fitness journey with Sportling today!
