Hi, I am Quartz, building the jiu-jitsu journal app Post Black Belt. No matter how many technique classes I take, it is never easy to use everything right away in sparring. We recently shipped several updates around technique hashtags, so in this post I want to walk through what changed.
New Techniques Tab
Most people who train jiu-jitsu share the same goal: get better at jiu-jitsu. I also kept wondering what to practice and how to structure that practice. We redesigned the Techniques tab so it is not only a place to read your logs, but also a place to review and explore techniques in a clearer flow.
Video Recommendations by Technique Hashtags
The most important part of improving at jiu-jitsu is still showing up on the mat. But even when I arrived motivated, I often forgot what I had recently been drilling and what needed work.
Now, on the Home tab, Poble AI recommends techniques, related journal entries, and videos based on your recorded logs. The more detailed your daily entries are, the broader and more useful those recommendations become.
On each technique detail screen, you can immediately check your own entries and related videos for that hashtag. You no longer need to jump between different places to find references, then come back and write your log.
See Your Favorite Techniques at a Glance
What is your favorite technique these days? I have been focusing on De La Riva to X-guard. After even a short break from training, I can easily lose track of what I am naturally good at and what style I am leaning toward.
Now I can track my own game through the hashtags I have logged most often. This makes it easier to spot weak areas quickly and build a better routine from what I actually train.
Wrap-up
We are already well into 2025. I hope you keep training in a healthy and fun way, and if you have feedback about the app, feel free to share it anytime.
